The 2013-14 Premier League season will be a very interesting one for Everton. With David Moyes moving to Manchester United and Roberto Martinez taking over the changes made will mean a much different Everton team. Martinez has done well in the transfer business this summer bringing in strikers Arouna Kone from his old team, Wigan, and Barcelona loaner, Gerard Deulofeu. In addition he strengthened the Everton defense with Antolin Alcaraz and goal keeper Joel Robles.
What Martinez has is a solid team with Everton and one that fans should be expecting to finish at least as well as they did last season while also challenging for an FA Cup trophy. For the moment Everton has been able to hang on to both Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, both of which will be crucial players to hang on to this season. There is still a chance that one or both players could be transferred since the transfer window will not close till the end of August.
Martinez may be able to further develop this Everton side and bring out the best in them with a more flowing style of football than his predecessor. Too often last season Everton was not able to kill off games or would sit back and defend too much. Martinez and his new signings should be able to help with this giving more stability at the back and attacking options up front, especially with the speed of Kone.
My prediction for Everton in the 2013-14 Premier League season is a strong finish in the top ten at seventh. The teams above Everton are tough and it will take quite a bit for Everton to break in above teams like Liverpool and Tottenham. I do predict that they will go far in the FA Cup, perhaps even making another Final appearance.
