Premier League Preview for Manchester United v Stoke along with Predictions for every result in the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week.
While Manchester United play at home again in week nine, they no longer seem to have the cutting edge at Old Trafford that they once had. In their four home matches this Premier League season they are 1-2-1 having scored four goals and allowed three while keeping two clean sheets. The worrying thing for United is that the 0-0 Chelsea draw is the only one they would have expected to drop any points from.
In looking over some of the statistics, United has been averaging 14 shots per game with five on target and an average of one goal per game. Along with this they have average 56% possession and an 84% pass success rate.
This all compares to Stoke City who average 49% possession with a 79% pass success rate. They have scored four goals this season with an average of 0.5 goals per game and 12 shots per game with four on target.
The number of goals scored by Stoke this season is the most worrying thing for them. Only four goals this EPL campaign and their last goal coming in week five during their 1-3 loss to Arsenal, is just not good enough.
My prediction is for a Manchester United win, but only narrowly. Stoke City’s offense has been stuttering this season and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be picking up any time soon. With that said, Manchester United aren’t the nailed on winners that they once were. Teams no longer go to Old Trafford fearing a rout and many have gone there and gotten points this season. It will take something special from Stoke to manage anything other than a loss.
Betting Odds: Man United win: 1.32-1.36; Draw: 4.96-5.00; Stoke win: 10.07-11.00
Form: Manchester United (L, W, L, L, W, D) Stoke (W, D, L, L, L, D)
