Premier League Highlights: Results for the EPL fixture between Manchester City v Arsenal from Saturday, September 22, 2012.
Where: Etihad Stadium – Manchester City
Score: Manchester City 1 – 1 Arsenal
|Joleon Lescott (40’)||Laurent Koscielny (82’)|
Arsenal got them-selves a much deserved draw. The Premier League champions Manchester City were playing at home, but certainly did not act like it. Arsenal appear to be really clicking, particularly in midfield.
While they did dominate possession (59% to City’s 41%) they didn’t do as much with it as their counterparts. Arsenal managed 11 shots (4 on goal) while City had 15 shots (6 on goal). Arsenal did look threatening and looked the most likely to score, but City were able to open the scoring through a Joleon Lescott header from a corner.
Jack Rodwell came on for the disappointing Scott Sinclair in the second half, but, while this added some depth to their attack did not actually bring any more goals.
Instead Arsenal continued to attack with Cazorla coming close, except for a fine save from Joe Hart. Shortly after this City’s goal scorer Lescott’s failed clearance fell to Laurent Koscielny who smashed the ball home to put the scores level.
Arsenal fans will likely be disappointed that they didn’t do more and get the win, but should be happy to go to the Etihad and come away with a well earned point.
