Aston Villa come into Thursday’s EPL match having lost narrowly to Stoke City. They will continue to be without Christian Benteke as well as Ron Vlaar looking unlikely to return. In addition, Kieran Westwood picked up his fifth yellow card and will be out serving a one match ban.
The Villans have struggled again this season, especially recently with their third consecutive loss, while scoring just one goal in that time. More and more they have relied on route one tactics to try to hoof it downfield and force a mistake from their opponents. In addition they have struggled defensively by giving up 23 this season as well as 11 in their last six matches.
Crystal Palace may have swapped out their manager, but continue to be relegation fodder as they sit in 18th place with just 13 points from a 4-1-12 record. This has been largely due to their inability to score goals with a league low of 11 this season.
They have lost two in a row after winning two consecutive home matches. Their away record has not been good with just one win back in November with the 1-0 over Hull City. In away matches they have allowed 14 goals and the 1-0 win was their only clean sheet. They have also only scored four times on the road, although one was against Chelsea two weeks ago.
I’m predicting a low scoring draw, but this is truly a match that could go either way. Both teams have been pretty awful, especially recently. Their recent run of results does not bode well for either club. If any team is really going to win I would have to go with Aston Villa. They at least have a better goal difference of -6 compared to Palace’s -16.
